Age: 22 years old
Birthday: May 14th
Gender: Male
Showdown ID: Not Applicable.
Starter Pokémon: Pikachu ♂, Jupiter
Many people’s Pokémon emulate their personalities, Jupiter is essentially the poster-poke for this. Every bit as big of an over-achiever as his trainer, he has a tendency to show other Pokémon how to be better Pokémon. A natural learner, he quickly adapts to new situations, and is the quintessential leader for Maple’s team. Can be a bit prideful, and is sensitive to losing, and the comments of other Pokémon.
Appearance:
Maple is a tall individual, standing well above the average height in Kanto. His build is athletic, from the numerous sports he played as a child, as well as the rigorous physical standards he holds himself up to. Maple has short brown hair that has been called “the most perfectly kept messy spike look”. His eyes are bright blue, and almost seem to be searching your soul when he looks at you.
His clothing style changes fairly regularly, but usually consists, of jeans, and either a t-shirt, or a button down shirt, or a combination of the two. He dresses according to whatever city he is in, the color matching the name of the city generally. He is usually found with whatever latest technology is around, and is obsessed with gadgets.
Personality:
He is extremely value driven and makes decisions based on whether it well help the greater good. He is concerned for people's feelings, tries to be gentle, and avoids hurting anyone if he can help it. He is a genuine good guy, with a strong belief that nice guys finish last but it is worth the wait. He tends to internalize conflict, or avoid it as much as possible. If the situation really calls for it, he will speak out, but this is generally only if his beliefs are being insulted. If it gets to the point where he has to address something, he can get heated. Luckily he’s pretty mellow most of the time. He has a strong moral code, and has to live his life in accordance with what he feels is right. He is however, also a very big know-it-all, and despite hating conflict, will not hesitate to call someone out if they’re wrong. He can be very opinionated, but has learned to just hold his comments to himself though it’s clear that something is bothering him.
With all that being said, Maple is also extremely emotionally closed off. It takes someone special for him to open up about how he feels, and it takes a lot for someone to be considered special. He has a lot of ‘friends’ but very few people he considers himself truly close to. He is very individualistic in his work and prefers to handle things on his own. People often call Maple complex, and for many he is hard to understand. He is very private in his personal affairs, and avoids talking about it if he can help it. Maple is sort of a closet romantic, listening to a lot of love themed music, especially love ballads by classic rock artists. He is extremely stubborn, and has very internalized views on things. If it’s something he firmly believes is right, he will not back down very easily. He puts tremendous faith into his insights and intuition. This also tends to make him ignore other people’s insights and opinions unless they’re golden.
He is a natural nurturer and is patient and devoted to people, even if he doesn’t particularly like them. But because of his introverted nature he’ll usually avoid trying to help someone. He doesn’t do very well with expressing his feelings or dealing with those of others. He could help if we wanted to, but emotional situations make him nervous. He truly believes in trying to make the world a better place one day at a time. One could say because of his complex inner-life, he is an introvert. One-on-one relationships mean more to him than those in a large group setting, and if he’s upset about something he’s perfectly fine staying home to work out. He is extremely guarded in showing his own feelings, especially to new people. He can be sensitive to comments from others, though he will never show it, and is extremely hard on himself. This can result in him expecting the best from others and sometimes being disappointed in their progress. He is deeply woven, mysterious, highly complex, and often perplexing, even to himself. He sees the world in a way that perhaps only he can understand.
Family:
Mother- Irene Maple, née Mahogany. (deceased) Peter’s mother. Always desired the best for him, had a love for the finer things in life. A very unhealthy woman, plagued with diseases from her youth. Passed away while Maple was at one of Oak’s seminars, spoke to her for the last time over video call.
Father- John Maple. A hard working man, and natural scholar. Worked at Silph Co. Building computer chips before being laid off. Now works at a place that manufactures Pokéballs. Is distraught from his wife’s death, but is managing well.
History:
Maple was enrolled in classes as soon as he was able, and was expected to excel at the time almost as early. He was put into the prestigious Viridian City Pokémon Academy once of age, and quickly became the school’s top student, even being voted most likely to join the Elite Four in the year book. Other students tended to dislike him for how serious he took his studies, and he could be a bit alienated at times because of it. He had friends, but would often put his studies over them and spend long hours locked away in his room. Needless to say, great things were expected of him.
All was not well however, as his family struggled financially. His father worked long hours in a Pokéball manufacturing company, usually on the graveyard shift, so Maple wasn’t able to spend very much time with him. His mother was also extremely depressed, having come from a wealthy family, and not having all of the things she felt she deserved. Their marriage was a rocky one, with Maple’s father being madly in love with his mother, and her mostly being upset at him for not earning enough. Still, she did all that she could to assure that Maple had the best upbringing possible, spending more than they had to accomplish so.
Despite all of this, Maple grew up a fairly introverted child, and would often stay holed up in his room performing various experiments. When he left home, he would often travel the long distance to Pallet town to attend Professor Oak’s seminars, where people very senior to him were in attendance. The professor only held them a few times a year, so the trip wasn’t too difficult for the adolescent, and he was usually able to take it with his father. This was a rare opportunity for them to spend time with one another, which Maple valued.
The lectures provided by Professor Oak inspired the boy. His tales of his time spent with Pokémon, gave Maple a hunger to accomplish the same. Professor Oak told of his exploits with Gym Leaders, as well as accomplished trainers left Maple with a new found goal in life, to be the next great Pokémon Professor. He finally understood his purpose in life, and why studying and having high marks appealed to him so much. The desire was fueled by his mother’s passing, where he swore that he would accomplish the dream in her honor. And from that day forward he has always pushed for it.
