Alrighty guys!
So this is something that Snorlax has been working on for a little while and inspiration just struck me!
So. I'm having the revelation of this:
Using the trainer types found in the games.
Swimmer, Cowgirl/-boy, Burgler, Psychic, etc.
With these archetypes, you must incorporate Pokèmon into your team that meet the criteria. Early game it's kind of hard to do, so we can let some stuff slide because you still need to build your team, but most should be easily worked into it.
Cowgirl/-boy could start with a charmander or pikachu, but they would work best with ponyta, rapidash, tauros, maybe rattata and fearow.
Swimmer has to start with squirtle.
Hikers start with charmander, because mountainous and bulbasaur implies lots of greenery, forests and the like. With a good enough backstory, then yeah we could be lenient for one of the other starters, but your history has to show this.
Those are just a few ideas, there will be more as the site grows and we get more feedback as these will have some wiggle room. Specializations don't necessarily mean one type, though there are some obvious ones like Bird Keepers and Bug Catchers/Maniacs.
There is a downside to this, however.
These trainers are specialists.
If your party is not comprised of at least 50% of your archetype's specialization, then you don't get those bonuses for that thread.
If your active threads total 75% of non-specialized Pokèmon, then you must get back up to 75% to regain those bonuses for any future threads. That means that 3/4 threads must have your archetype's specialization in it.
You can't have a Pokèmon that is in direct conflict with your archetype, like the aforementioned Bird Keepers, Swimmers, and Bug Catchers. The reason behind this is that these Pokèmon will be naturally at odds due to their typing and there will be predatory/prey instincts go on.
---There are exceptions to this as well, of course, such as rattata and ekans. Rattata is a prey Pokèmon, ekans is a predatory/prey Pokèmon. Rules of nature do apply as well. If it's small enough to be eaten and could occur in real life wilds, then chances are it can here as well. That doesn't mean that a Rancher/Cowboy/-girl can't have both, though. It's just... unwise.
With archetypes that don't imply a type specialization, it's a personality trait.
School(children) are young, probably around 9-12.
Lasses/Lads tend to be a bit more proper and probably fun-loving. They don't cause trouble, however.
Hooligans tend to get in trouble.
Little Queens/Kings to be snooty and spoiled. They also have Pokèmon that may have these traits or the character passes this on to them by spoiling them with whatever they want.
So, more feedback!
What do you guys think? The thread/party requirements will stay, though they could probably use refinement. The thing to keep in mind with party/thread requirements is that you won't be restricted from catching non-specialization Pokèmon, you just can't have 4/6 Pokèmon that are anything but Water and be expected to do a lot of training while you're in a lake or something, especially if you start with charmander or pikachu! Now, having a charmander or pikachu and you're an Ice Skater or something, that's understandable - you've got to have warmth with you being around ice all the time, especially if you're going to be training in caves a lot.
