It had taken him a week and then some to even make up his mind to come here. His last "adventure" with Pokemon hadn't ended particularly well, and he wasn't eager to repeat the accidents of his past. But he wasn't any more eager to continue miserably moping to and fro across Kanto without a purpose. And so it was that, eventually, he had made his way to Pallet Town. Even making all haste to get there, it was still nearly two weeks since receiving the letter from an old colleague that he finally arrived in the small town. Travelling carefully to avoid run-ins with wild Pokemon lengthened the trip, as did his infrequent stops to rest. Walking long distances in a hurry didn't agree with him terribly well anymore.
At least once he met up with Professor Oak and found out what this whole "Pokedex" thing was about, he could relax and slow his pace down some. Nice and easygoing; that was going to be the way of things.
He had done a little bit of looking into things on the way here, and was far from clueless about what he was signing himself up for. The Pokedex itself sounded like...well, like an interesting tool, if nothing else. He hadn't managed to completely get a handle on what it was he would be accomplishing with one of them, but then again he hadn't really had much time to try and find out. He'd been mostly preoccupied with just getting here to get the blasted thing.
And here he was, finally.
Looking as if he had just crawled out of a particularly violent encounter with a storm, he stumped into the small, peaceful town, leaning heavily on his cane. He had only come here once before, and had a vague notion of where Oak's lab was at, but... A quick query to a passerby pointed him in the right direction, as well as earning him a strange look. He did sort of look like the type of person without much business seeing the Professor. But he slowly ambled off in the indicated direction, and soon enough came face to proverbial face with the lab. And it was right where he had remembered.
Now he just felt silly.
Adjusting the strap of his admittedly puny travelling pack over one shoulder, he stumped his way up to the building's door. With a deep breath in and then out again, he grumbled to himself as he hesitated for just a moment. It was only a forceful reminder that accidents were completely unpredictable, for good or bad as it happened, that he opened the door and made his way inside.
A muffled thunk of his cane on the floor of the lab later, he peered around the interior of the building. It was somehow...not quite what he had been expecting. He had no idea what, exactly, it was that he was expecting, but that wasn't really the point. Things being not what you expected was a running theme. This wasn't much different.
"Hmmm... Interesting."
A man of few words, was he.
