The grey-eyed blonde hobbled into the city carrying an exhausted Pikachu in her slender arms. Her feet were killing her and she let out a sigh of relief as she spotted a local boutique. It had been the longest journey of her life and Nikki was hungry and tired but new shoes came first. Nikki threw her yellow high heels in the garbage as she pushed open the heavy wooden door and stepped into the air conditioning. She had always loved those glitter covered shoes but now she found them horribly impractical. The shop attendant eyed her with curiosity as she tip toed through the aisles in her bare stockings. Mr. Sparky jumped down and followed Nikki on her quest. She was glad to be walking on soft carpet after the last few days in the wilderness. Finally the girl found what she was looking for and pulled on a pair of stylish blue flats. She posed like a model and asked her Pikachu, “What do you think?” Mr. Sparky nodded her approval, “Pika-chu!” She moved to the counter and pulled out her mother’s card to make the purchase.
The attendant looked at the back with suspicion before scanning her purchase. Nikki realized she must have looked out of place. She couldn’t remember ever being this dirty since she was just a kid playing in the fields around Pallet Town. She used to go out and look for smidgypuffs with her grandmother every weekend. The thought of her grandmother made her sad and she decided to focus on the task at hand. The cashier handed Nikki the receipt and her card back and the girl wandered back into the street. She began looking around for a hotel to spend the night in. She was hoping to find someplace with room service and a view but the only thing she could find was an old bed and breakfast type inn. She tried to stay optimistic. She turned to the Pikachu at her side, “Maybe it only looks run down on the outside.” Mr. Sparky gave her a skeptical look in response.
She entered the inn and approached the old snaggle toothed inn keeper. He was busy rummaging through a magazine and Nikki had to clear her throat loudly to get his attention. The man looked up and Nikki spoke, “Um… I need a room for the night.” The innkeeper looked her over before sitting up. He looked down over the counter at her Pikachu. “You seem a little young to be traveling alone.” Nikki held her breath and waited for the bad news. He was going to call the police and she would spend the rest of her teen years behind bars, she just knew it. She couldn’t imagine being confined like that. She didn’t want to taste prison food and be forced to wear that terrible shade of orange! Finally, the innkeeper smiled, “You must be a Pokémon trainer.” Nikki nodded quickly allowing him to believe it was true. He handed her a key to a room upstairs and Nikki headed out to find something to eat.
