Full Name: Gabriel Amadeus Thyme
Mini Profile Name Color: Something in a shade of dark red, perhaps?
Nicknames: Call him "Gabe" and he will punch you. Otherwise, he's been known to be called mostly derogatory nicknames, including: Hothead, Mr. Jerk, Plant-man (after his last name), and others along those lines.
Age: 23
Birthday:November 7th
Gender: Male
Showdown ID: None at this time.
Starter Pokemon: Charmander.
Appearance:

Gabriel is of slightly above average height, standing in at just a shade over six feet, and with a a build that suggests he spends a great deal of time fighting or otherwise getting into trouble. When he isn't actively scowling at someone, he has a perpetual, smug grin plastered on his face, and tends to bare his teeth more often than is normally considered polite. His hair is a mess of spikes and tends to jut up particularly on either side of his head, in what could generously be called horns of some vague description. His clothing is simple and well-tailored, if elegant, though he does have the extravagance that is his jacket, replete with fur lining and skeletal dragon and wolf motifs looping around its arms in gold patterns.
Personality: Gabriel puts forth a bold facade, being loud, obnoxious, and arrogant. It isn't as if he's trying to hide any deep-seated insecurities or anything, like is sometimes the case. He just prefers to seem like any other arrogant jackass that couldn't think his way out of a paper bag. Unlike his callous, brash demeanor suggests, however, he is very intelligent, if only in the cunning sense and not so much...book-smart. He tends to enjoy getting under people's skin, and takes no small amount of pride in being as insufferable as possible.
He doesn't take well to people turning the tables on him, or otherwise getting under his skin, however. He is a proud individual, and his pride leads to very real arrogance that isn't faked, and he takes any affronts or challenges to his skills or identity deathly serious. He is far more prone to violence than most, but his temper is managable enough that he won't actually fight without a good reason, at least in most situations. Unfortunately, Gabriel has more than his fair share of sensitive topics and emotional issues that make his temper explode and him to see red.
He doesn't have a heart of gold hidden under all that arrogance and scum, but he isn't completely without a heart, either. He's not completely incapable of doing the right thing, and while his good intentions are hard to measure, he isn't out to just be a jerk for the kick of it all. And, at the end of the day, if you really manage to get through to him he just might be willing to slack off on the insults and arrogance....at least a little.
At the core of his being, however, Gabriel is extremely bitter and angry at the world for leaving him, in his own eyes, alone. He is liable to snap and grow irrationally angry at the mere mention of someone being mistreated by, or mistreating their family, friends or, heavens above, their Pokemon. He isn't a saint -- far from it -- but he's not the type of person who can stand by and watch something wrong going down without getting involved. Though his involvement doesn't always turn things for the better...
Family:
Jacob Thyme -- Father -- Presumed Deceased -- One of the unlucky ones, who went away to the war and never came back. Though he'd never admit it, Gabriel harbors deep, deep scars over his father's disappearance, and even to this day absolutely refuses to believe he's actually dead.
Mary Thyme -- Mother -- Deceased -- Gabriel was never close to his mother when she was alive, and the only real bond they might have had was shared grief and disbelief over Jacob's supposed death. She died only a short year ago, but her death was enough to spur Gabriel into finally doing something, and so even with his distant relationship she sitll holds a special place in his heart.
History: Gabriel wasn't what you might call a problem child -- not at first, anyway. But when his father left for the war and didn't came back, Gabriel withdrew and became more and more of a troublemaker. Young though he was, he still held a record for violence and aggressive behavior, and injured more than a few people who got on his bad side. On his fourteenth birthday, there was an incident of specific and spectacular note, where an older boy sneered at him that "Daddy won't be here for your birthday again, huh?" Gabriel almost beat him to death, according to witnesses and the record of the incident, though Gabriel claims he can't remember anything beyond the taunting.
He grew, if possible, more distant, and spent as little time at home as possible. More often than not, he would stalk the outskirts of his home town of Viridian, staring angrily, accusingly, and with no small measure of longing on his face at Trainers that passed through, especially the ones just beginning their own Pokemon journey. Though he would never admit it to anyone, it is in part due to his father promising to help him get started on his own Pokemon adventure one day, a promise that never came to pass.
His reputation as a troublemaker with a terrible temper soon blossomed, and though it wasn't by design, he soon gathered a small following that grew into what could generously be called a "gang". Gabriel himself was loathe to admit that they even existed, until situations that really irked his temper popped up, when he would gather up his "pals" and go take care of things.
His reputation wasn't exactly a good one, but at least he did more good than direct harm...most of the time. He put more than a few people in the hospital, and while he was arrested more than once, no one could be convinced to give any hard evidence and he walked away every time.
That was his life until a year ago. When his mother died.
He was completely unaware of the fact until he was informed about it by one of the members of his "gang". He sneered it off at first, disbelieving, until he returned home shortly afterward....and found it empty.
He was suddenly crushed under a weight of guilt and confusion. He had no idea what had happened, or why, and was pressed under the weight of there possibly being something he could have done if he wasn't always so angry and away from home doing who knows what.
He didn't cry. He didn't even grieve. He just grew even more angry and bitter, resenting even further everyone who didn't cherish what they had, and stormed out of town in a blind rage. No one wanted to get in his way.
He came back a number of months later, seemingly come to grips with events, and formally announced he was disbanding his group of troublemakers. It was met with disbelief, but he put his foot down -- down some people's throats, in at least two cases -- and made it crystal clear he had his own personal reasons.
During his trip to clear his head, he had made up his mind about one thing: he wasn't going to keep waiting around forever. His family was gone, and moping and doing nothing but being angry at the world wasn't going to help him. He had discovered by word of mouth information about Professor Oak's new research team in the works, and sent a letter requesting he be allowed to take part.
If he was going to get started on this blasted Pokemon journey later than planned, he might as well do something good while doing it to make his folks proud, right?
