Keith exited Professor Oak’s lab with a small red and white ball in his hand. He looked at it begrudgingly as he looked at his home in the distance of the sleepy little town. He had never thought of leaving his home, where he had been the towns’ florist and gardener since his boyhood. He had never wanted to become a pokemon trainer, but Professor Oak had agreed to pay for his mother’s medical expenses so long as he aided the Pokemon Professor with his goal of cataloging all of the world’s pokemon.
Feeling a bit overwhelmed at the thought of the journey ahead, Keith walked slowy though the little village towards the pier to the south. It had been one of his favorite places to go in his spare time, he stared at the ocean and the far away island to the south. It was known as Cinnabar Island, if he had recalled correctly. He was still holding the pokeball in his hand, he didn’t even know what kind of pokemon was inside of it. The professor had told him that he thought the pokemon would be a perfect companion for him. Letting out a sigh he opened up the pokeball and a red beam of light poured out towards the grass near the dock.
Soon the red light formed into the shape of a small pokemon. It was a small four legged creature with a broad face and a large green sprout on its back. It had big brown eyes and stood lower than the trainer’s knee even with the large sprout on its back. As it came out of the pokeball, it looked around the outside with a confused look on its face, expecting to be in one of the professor’s pokemon habitats. Around its waste a small satin bow had been tied on it underneath of it, giving the pokemon a feminine appearance. She looked at Keith with a domicile look on her face, she didn’t seem to be happy or sad about the new arrangement. “Hey. You can stretch your legs and relax for a while, tomorrow we will be leaving on a journey.” Kieth told the bulbasaur as he moved down the small pier and sat down at the edge of it. The little bulbasaur made a strange grunting sound and walked to a patch of flowers nearby and began sniffing it. Kieth couldn’t help but smile and he stood back up and walked over to the bulbasaur, surprising it as he got close to it.
“That is called a lilly, do you like flowers?” Keith asked the little bulbasaur, who seemed to nod at him with a shy smile.
“I like them too, I spend most of my days in the garden growing flowers. Or well, I won’t be doing that anymore…” Kieth said to the pokemon with an excited tone at first that grew somber as he remembered that he would be leaving his garden. The pokemon seemed to pick up on his sadness and nuzzled against his leg in a show of understanding.
“We can visit the garden before we go, I know you’ll like it,” Kieth told the bulbasaur. “I think I am going to call you Lilly.”
