Wasting no time, Daniel left Pallet Town in search of the next step of his adventure, but it seemed he wasn't leading the way for this particular section. His usual pace would have been a brisk walk through the grass on his way to Viridian City, but currently he was practically jogging to keep up with Poseidon. The young man had known it was a mistake to set the turtle down on the grass, but his arms had gotten so tired from carrying the little guy that he didn't know what else to do. It was exactly seventeen seconds later that he remembered the Poke ball.
"Squirtle. Squirt. Squirtle. Squirt," said the tiny water Pokemon as he sprinted ahead to check out each and every flower.
It was at one of these moments that he figured he would have to take control while his Pokemon was occupied with something, so he rushed forward and scooped up the turtle in his arms. Even though the poke ball would have been easier, Daniel had a feeling that leaving the little guy out would be more beneficial for him in the end. After all, one never knew when something might happen between now and the next town, and he didn't want to be fishing for a ball and wind up missing an opportunity to do something.
"Now, how about we try and keep near each other? We wouldn't want to lose one another by accident, now would we?" He looked right into Poseidon's eyes as he said the words, which he would help to convey his meaning to the Pokemon. Whether it worked or not, Daniel wasn't very sure on given he couldn't speak Pokemon, but the way his Squirtle said his name told him all that he needed to know.
"Squirtle!" Of course, the thumbs up helped too.
