[PTab=Combat] There are two options for PVP combat, one is free form and the other uses the popular battle simulator called Pokemon Showdown!
Freeform is a reliant upon courtesy and respect for one another and writing beautiful combats. It will take longer to resolve a combat, and both players gain experience and money generated by the site. It is the default system because not all users can utilize the simulator and not all players can be on at the same time. If one player does not want to use simulation then the battle must take place as free form.
Simulated combat uses an online battle emulator called Pokemon Showdown. You battle in the style of the gameboy games, and their is an option to record a replay. The winner of the battle will post the replay inside of the RP thread. A tutorial for creating a Pokemon Showdown account is below. Unlike in a free form battle, players may place a cash wager between each other and the winner takes the pot.
These rules apply to showdown only.
Sleep Clause: Limit one foe put to sleep
Species Clause*: Limit one of each Pokémon
OHKO Clause: OHKO moves are banned
Moody Clause: Moody is banned
Evasion Moves Clause: Evasion moves are banned
Endless Battle Clause: Forcing endless battles is banned
HP Percentage Mod: HP is shown in percentages
Swagger Clause: Swagger is banned
Baton Pass Clause: Limit one Pokémon knowing Baton Pass
Free Form- If one user is not comfortable with using the battle simulator, then the battle must be done free form.
Pokemon Nostalgia's progression system is not based upon levels, but upon the moves that a pokemon has learned. That being said, evolved pokemon still tend to have higher stats (but they take longer to learn techniques.) Disputes will be handled by the staff. Dodging attacks in excess will come with a steep grade penalty. Note that even though it is free form your pokemon can't use moves that it hasn't learned.
In a free form battle both opponents gain equal experience and site generated money.
The option to battle using a simulator in real time also exists! Please visit our Showdown! Support center for more information!

[PTab=IC Rules]
Trainers
- The current starting area is Pallet town.
- You must pick one of the four starter pokemon.
- Your trainer may be from anywhere in the Kanto region (Sevii Islands excluded)
- You must play an original character with no relationship to any canon. This includes characters like Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy.
- Team Rocket and other factions will be available later in the game (you must be recruited).
- Professor Oak's grandson became the Pokemon League Champion. His rival has been missing since an incident at Sliph Co.
The Invisible Boundary
- In order to facilitate to launch only Pallet Town to Pewter city are available for RP.
- After Brock is defeated Diglett's cave will open up to Vermillion City, Mt Moon will open you to Cerulean City.
Pokemon
- Only the first 151 Pokemon are allowed. (Even new evolutions of said Pokemon are prohibited)
- Pokemon do not get hard stats from level up, you progress by learning moves and evolving.
- Unevolved pokemon typically learn move faster but are weaker than their counterparts.
- Capturable pokemon will appear as you roleplay, they appear most often on routes or natural obstacles (like Viridian Forest).
- Water Pokemon that lack legs can levitate about an inch off of the ground and can survive out of water. They are still affected by ground based attacks and do not have true levitation such as a Koffing or Magnemite.
Pokemon Breeding
- You may breed Pokemon without the use of a daycare (although the actual act of breeding does not need to be posted, eew.)
- Simply post a very PG pokemon affection and give them some alone time (alert the staff when you post for a grade!)
- The female Pokemon will produce one egg and will belong to the female pokemon's trainer. The pokemon will be the same species as the female.
- Trainers may sell or gift their pokemon for breeding purposes at a negotiated rate. They can also arrange a trade or purchase of the egg.
- If the new pokemon's parents also has any of the breeds egg moves, then that Pokemon may learn those moves in place of others as it gains experience.
- An egg is always considered to be a participant in battles and threads and gets a portion of the experience. After 1,000 experience is gained the pokemon hatches in its lowest possible evolution with all of its starting moves.
Badges and Trading Pokemon
- You may trade or even sell Pokemon among yourselves however your like.
- The Pokemon gets a 25% experience boost.
- You may not use these Pokemon in battle unless you have the appropriate number of badges.
- Note that each gym leader carries Pokemon of different levels, and they will use Pokemon appropriate to the badge level you are challenging. (There is no linear progression, as more areas open up you can choose them as starting towns.)
- The original Gym leaders of Pokemon Nostalgia are played by the staff. If you would like to become a gym leader in the future, please see here under "Dojo"!
1st Badge- Pokemon up to level 20
2nd Badge- Pokemon up to level 30
3rd Badge- Pokemon up to level 40
4th Badge- Pokemon up to level 50
5th Badge- Pokemon up to level 60
6th Badge- Pokemon up to level 70
7th Badge- Pokemon up to level 80
8th Badge- All Pokemon.
Travel & Time
- Liquid time is in effect, but you must play within the confines of natural obstacles.
- Natural obstacles are listed here (they are lettered except for Diglett's Cave)- So in the current version of the game you may play liquidly throughout Pallet Town and Viridian City. You must travel through the Viridian forest to play in Pewter City.
- To begin your journey through an obstacle you must complete all threads. While you are in a natural obstacle you may not be in any other threads, the staff will tell you when you may exit the obstacle to the other side. It is important to bring friends with you through an obstacle! They are much more dangerous than in the games.
- Although you can skip over routes, you may want to play there anyways! Next to obstacles they are the best bet for finding Pokemon.
- When you use a Pokemart or Pokemon Center it is considered to take place after all of your current threads. You can only switch your current Pokemon at a center. In order to obtain these items within a current thread is to RP out the Pokemon center and Pokemart interaction.
Posts
- All RP gains you experience and money! Experience is distributed to Pokemon involved in the thread.
Solo post gains capped at 50% of word count.
2 player groups capped at 75% of word count.
3+ player groups capped at 100% of word count.
(Per player, not per alt.)
- Words exceeding 1,500 in a single thread in one day will not be graded. Please try to keep threads with others at a 500 word maximum per post, as longer writing tends to lean towards the other character not getting a chance to do things.
- You may have one solo thread at a time and may post in it 3 times per day. (Shop & Pokemon center not counted.)
Wild Encounters
- Create a thread with the words [Wild] in the title.
- A mod generates a Pokemon with a small writing prompt for you. If you do not get timely service (24 hours), do not be afraid to leave a note in the chat box. It also helps if you use the tagging feature by typing the @ symbol next to the name admin. At the end of your post.
@admin
- You are told the moves and level of the Pokemon. You then write the battle between the Pokemon and yourself.
- At the end of the post you can choose to try to capture the Pokemon, but keep in mind that if you completely write down what the Pokemon can do the mod has the right to decide that the Pokemon fainted (in which case you will be allowed to keep the Pokeball.)
- If there is more than one trainer present, we will generate more Pokemon for you. From now on you can't capture another persons wild unless they "pass" it to you. You can agree to help out though, but whoever it was generated for is the one who gets to capture it.
- The staff will not include pictures and will attempt to leave gender ambiguous. You can choose the gender and picture yourself within the battle, or after it. If you would like it randomized please post a note when you enter the wild thread. Note that shiny pokemon are not regulated, go nuts!

[PTab=FAQ] Do I need to thread out buying items or using the pokemon center?
- For items and changing your team you can do this OOCly here! Note that the changes apply after your current threads unless you visit these places ICly in the thread.
- The only time you can't do this freely is if you are in a "Natural Obstacle", currently the only Natural Obstacle in play is Viridian Forest.
- If your pokemon are fainted then you need to RP out going to the Pokemon center!
Can my Starter Pokemon be shiny or different colors?
- Your Pokemon can be shiny, its color scheme should be close to either the normal or shiny version.
- Your Pokemon can also have accessories like a bandannas, hats, etc. (No mechanical benefit)
What about the other regions?
- The Pokemon from other regions are not in play, but you can have a character whose family hails
from another region of the Pokemon world. They can't bring any non-original Pokemon with them however. - The other regions will rarely if ever be mentioned or acknowledged in regular play.
Face Claims
- Don't use a canon from the show, other than minor characters that did not appear in Kanto (which are fine).
- Use the members list to check face claims, you can see the avatars being used on there!
- Animanga face claims are preferred, but you can use a RL one if you would like.
